# Dryer guides, read first.

A dryer repair guide is only useful if it answers the question you actually have, so these are split by what you are trying to find out — is this worth paying for, what is that noise, what can I check myself — rather than by which part of the appliance it concerns.

## Work out what you are dealing with.

Split by what you are trying to find out rather than by what part of the appliance it concerns.

Reading did not fix it?

### The work itself

Every guide here ends in the same place: what a technician actually does about it, in the order it gets done.

10 kinds of work Cheapest cause first What a visit costs

See what we do

Curious what a repair costs? That has a page of its own rather than a section here, because nobody can name a fair figure before a technician has opened the dryer — [dryer repair cost](https://dryerrepair.center/cost/).

## Not sure where to start?

Most visits begin with one of a few questions. Each will have a guide that answers it before anything is booked, and some end with a fix that costs nothing.

[Or start from the symptom](https://dryerrepair.center/problems/)

### It is misbehaving and you are not sure why Five checks before you call for dryer repair

The breaker, the door and control lock, the lint screen, the vent hood outside and the gas valve, in about fifteen minutes with no tools.

### Before you phone or book Find your dryer's model number

The label hides inside the door opening, behind a water tank or on the door of a stacked unit, and it unlocks the manual, the parts and any recall.

### It smells hot or runs too hot Dryer Fire Warning Signs and What Each One Means

Slow loads, a hot cabinet, a weak flap at the outside hood: the signs that come before a dryer fire, and which ones mean switch it off now.

### You are weighing a repair against a new one Repair or replace a dryer: what decides it

Fuses, belts, rollers and heaters are worth fixing on almost any dryer; a rusted drum or a heat-pump compressor usually is not.

## When reading is not enough.

If the checks in a guide did not settle it, a technician picks up from there. The visit, stop by stop.

[What repairs cost](https://dryerrepair.center/cost/)

1. 01 Test before touching
2. 02 The price comes first
3. 03 The right part
4. 04 Repair and a test load

## When there is no time to read.

These four can start a fire or let gas into the house. Each page puts the causes in the order worth checking, and says when to stop and book.

## Questions about the guides.

### Do the guides take the place of a repair visit?

No. They explain what a dryer is doing and which checks are safe for an owner, so the simple causes are ruled out and the rest can be described clearly. Where a guide reaches a gas line, live wiring or the inside of the cabinet, it tells you to stop.

### Will the guides fit my make of dryer?

Most are written about the type of dryer rather than one brand, since gas, electric and ventless machines work much alike whoever builds them. Where a make differs the guide says so, and your owner's manual comes before any general advice.

### Where should I start reading?

If something is wrong now, start with the problem pages, which are sorted by what you notice. The guides are longer and suit a question you have time for: how a dryer dries, what to check before a visit, or whether an older one is worth keeping.

### What are the guides based on?

Each guide names the sources behind its specific claims, such as manufacturer documentation and published fire and gas safety guidance. Anything that cannot be sourced is given as general repair experience, not as a rule.
