By 2018 Battery Park City held thirty residential buildings, and no further construction was planned. ## What Battery Park City does to a dryer. None of its buildings own the ground they stand on; the land is leased from the Battery Park City Authority, a state public-benefit corporation created in 1968. The Solaire at 20 River Terrace, completed in 2003, was the first green residential building in the United States. Flood gates at the end of Albany Street are part of the Northwest Battery Park City Resiliency Project begun after Hurricane Sandy. The exhaust may travel a long horizontal duct to an exterior wall or join a shared riser, and every foot of that run adds resistance that shows up as longer cycles and a hotter cabinet. ### Newer developments Builders tend to install the same laundry hookup throughout a development, and replacement dryers follow that pattern for years. Knowing the original setup, gas or electric, helps match parts and connections quickly. ### On the water Near salt water, humid air leaves laundry harder to dry and lint heavier, so cycles run longer and ducts foul faster. A dryer that behaved well inland may need its vent cleaned more often once it lives by the coast. ## A visit in Battery Park City.
