The Dakota, a co-op at 72nd Street and Central Park West, is the oldest surviving luxury apartment building in New York City. ## What Upper West Side does to a dryer. Broadway here is lined with large early apartment houses such as the Ansonia of 1902 and the Apthorp and Belnord of 1908, each an individual city landmark. Cheap land compared with Lower Manhattan, the arrival of the subway and the spread of the passenger elevator made it possible to build large middle-class apartment buildings here. Every building on the Upper West Side gets its gas from Con Edison, the utility that serves all of Manhattan. [All of New York Metro](https://dryerrepair.center/locations/new-york/) ### Tower living Building management usually decides when a dryer vent can be opened, cleaned or rerouted, and some buildings clean shared exhaust ducts on their own schedule. Knowing which part of the path belongs to the apartment and which to the building is where a high-rise dryer repair begins. ### Small homes Small homes put the dryer wherever it fits: a hallway closet, a stacked pair in a kitchen corner, or a 24-inch compact model under a counter. A tight closet starves a dryer of make-up air, and a louvered door or a gap at the bottom can change how well it dries. ### Older housing stock Protected exteriors and historic district rules can limit where a new dryer vent may exit, which is one reason ventless dryers turn up in older buildings. Where the old vent has to stay, it is cleaned and checked more often, not less. ## A visit in Upper West Side. Four steps from the call to a working dryer in Upper West Side, Manhattan.
