Most often the moisture sensor bars are coated with softener or dryer sheet residue. Wiping them with rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth often cures it. If it does not, the sensor wiring or the board is tested. ### My dryer display is completely blank. Is the board gone? Check the breaker and the outlet first. On a gas dryer, the ordinary 120-volt outlet may be on a GFCI that tripped. After that, a blown thermal fuse or a door switch can leave some panels dark before the board is at issue. ### Can a power surge damage the dryer control? Yes. Electronic boards are sensitive to surges, and a dryer that went dark after a storm often has a damaged board or a blown fuse on it. The rest of the dryer is usually fine. ### Is a mechanical timer easier to repair than a board? A timer is simpler to test, and the part is often less costly.
