In the 1950s Imperial Sugar developed Venetian Estates, with waterfront homesites on Oyster Creek and on man-made lakes.

Sugar Creek, begun in 1968 on about 1,200 acres, surrounded two golf courses with custom houses.

Sugar Mill, in the northern part of the city, offered traditional, lakefront and estate lots.
