Dryer
guides,
read first.

A dryer repair guide is only useful if it answers the question you actually have, so these are split by what you are trying to find out — is this worth paying for, what is that noise, what can I check myself — rather than by which part of the appliance it concerns.

Curious what a repair costs? That has a page of its own rather than a section here, because nobody can name a fair figure before a technician has opened the dryer — dryer repair cost.

When reading
is not enough.

If the checks in a guide did not settle it, a technician picks up from there. The visit, stop by stop.

Questions about
the guides.

Do the guides take the place of a repair visit?
No. They explain what a dryer is doing and which checks are safe for an owner, so the simple causes are ruled out and the rest can be described clearly. Where a guide reaches a gas line, live wiring or the inside of the cabinet, it tells you to stop.
Will the guides fit my make of dryer?
Most are written about the type of dryer rather than one brand, since gas, electric and ventless machines work much alike whoever builds them. Where a make differs the guide says so, and your owner's manual comes before any general advice.
Where should I start reading?
If something is wrong now, start with the problem pages, which are sorted by what you notice. The guides are longer and suit a question you have time for: how a dryer dries, what to check before a visit, or whether an older one is worth keeping.
What are the guides based on?
Each guide names the sources behind its specific claims, such as manufacturer documentation and published fire and gas safety guidance. Anything that cannot be sourced is given as general repair experience, not as a rule.
