What not to do

F4 E1 is not the low-voltage message; Maytag reports a house supply problem separately, as L2 or F4 E4.

Questions
about F4 E1.

Can I clear F4 E1 myself?
Switch the breaker off for a minute and back on. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does F4 E1 on a Maytag always mean a burned-out element?
No. The heater relays on the control are also on Maytag's list, and a relay can fail while the element is fine. Testing both is part of the diagnosis.
Can I still use air-only cycles on my Maytag with F4 E1?
An air-only cycle does not use the heater, so it can refresh items while you wait. Clothes that need real drying should wait until the heating circuit is tested.

Still showing F4 E1?

Book with the code exactly as displayed, the whole model number, and whether you smell burning or gas — for a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
