Pet Pro sends the hair to the lint trap
The Pet Pro option is designed to lift pet hair off clothes and collect it in the lint trap. In a home with pets that trap fills far faster than usual, and a matted trap slows every load after it, so it is the first thing checked when drying time creeps up.
Extra Power is meant to run longer
Extra Power boosts drying on any cycle so thick fabrics, pockets and seams come out dry the first time. A cycle that runs noticeably longer with it switched on is the option doing its job, not a sign of a failing heater.
The drive motor and drum carry long coverage
Maytag lists a 10-year limited parts warranty on the drive motor and drum for its laundry pairs. When a drum or motor is diagnosed, the purchase date is worth finding before anyone pays for those parts.
No heat with a code, but the drum keeps turning
An L2 on the display means the house supply is low or missing on the heating side, and the dryer carries on tumbling while it shows. That combination points to the breaker panel or the power cord hookup rather than the element.
Parts
Mechanical and electronic parts come from the same family supply as Whirlpool dryers and are generally easy to get. The long coverage on the motor and drum makes the purchase paperwork worth keeping.
Repair or replace
A Maytag with a sound drum and motor is almost always worth a heating, sensor or belt repair. Replacement is only worth weighing when an older unit needs a control board as well as a mechanical repair.
