The dryer expected heat and did not get it, or got it too slowly. On an electric model the element and its wiring; on a gas model the igniter, the flame sensor and the valve coils. A blocked vent is ruled out first.

Make sure the gas shutoff valve for the dryer is fully open.
Check that the flexible gas line is connected and not kinked or bent.
On a new install with the valve open, contact the installer; on an older dryer, book a visit.

GAS is a supply message, not a leak alarm. If you ever smell gas, do not use the dryer, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
