What F3 E1
actually means.
F3 E1 names the exhaust thermistor, the temperature sensor in the air leaving the drum. The control uses it to judge heat, and when its reading makes no sense the board flags it rather than guessing.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Whirlpool's own guidance for F3 E1 on its dryers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Switch the dryer off at the breaker for one minute, then turn it back on.
Start a Timed Dry cycle and watch the display for about a minute.
If F3 E1 appears again, book a visit; the thermistor and its connector are checked with a meter.
What not to do
This is not a report that the dryer is too hot. The code is about the sensor's signal, and the dryer may be heating normally when it shows.
