Fisher & Paykel dryers,
specifically.

Fisher and Paykel has sold only a few dryers in the US: 27-inch AeroCare vented models in electric and gas, and later a 24-inch condensing dryer. Because the lineup has changed over the years, every visit starts from the model and serial number on the machine rather than from the brand name.

The Fisher & Paykel lineup

What is particular
to Fisher & Paykel.

Two families matter: the 27-inch AeroCare vented dryers (for example DE7027 electric and DG7027 gas) and the 24-inch DE4024 condensing dryer. They share almost no parts, so the model number decides the whole plan.

A water tank at the top left

The 24-inch condensing dryer collects water in a tank at the top left of the cabinet, or sends it down a drain hose if one is set up. A full tank puts the dryer into a cool-down and then a pause, which owners can mistake for a breakdown.

A condenser cleaned by hand

Unlike self-cleaning designs, this condenser slides out behind a cover and is meant to be rinsed about once a month. A flashing Condenser light is the reminder, and skipping it slows every load.

Symbols first, numbers second

Problems the owner can fix appear as warning symbols with a run of beeps, while a real failure shows a code number after the lights go out. The manual asks owners to note that number with the serial number printed inside the door below the glass.

Gas and steam on the older AeroCare line

The 27-inch AeroCare dryers came in gas as well as electric versions, some with steam cycles. On those units a no-heat call can involve the gas supply and burner, which the condensing model does not have.

Parts

With few Fisher and Paykel dryers in US homes, some parts are ordered rather than stocked, especially for the older AeroCare models. Lint filters, water tanks and condenser parts are generally the easier items.

Repair or replace

A condensing dryer fitted where no duct can run is worth repairing for most failures, since replacing it means finding another ventless unit that fits the space. An older vented AeroCare with a major failure and scarce parts is the one case where replacement deserves a look.

Questions about
Fisher & Paykel dryers.

Where is the serial number on a Fisher and Paykel condensing dryer?
It is printed on the inside of the door, below the glass. Note it along with any code number on the display before you book a visit, because the code tells the technician where to look.
How often should the condenser on a Fisher and Paykel dryer be cleaned?
Fisher and Paykel asks for it once a month, and the Condenser light flashes as a reminder. Open the condenser cover, turn the two locking levers, slide the condenser out, rinse it and let it drain before locking it back in.
Does the Fisher and Paykel condensing dryer need an outside vent?
No. It condenses the moisture into water and collects it, so it can stand almost anywhere with power. Empty the tank after every load unless you have connected the drain hose.
