Miele dryers,
specifically.

Miele's US dryers are 24-inch T1 heat-pump machines that reuse their drying air instead of venting it, and they are often stacked on a Miele washer. They run from an ordinary 120-volt outlet and report problems as F-numbers that Miele's support pages explain one at a time.

The Miele lineup

What is particular
to Miele.

The T1 range runs from models such as the TXD160WP to steam-and-fragrance versions like the TXI680WP with SteamFinish and FragranceDos. Knowing which extras a unit carries tells us which parts to bring.

An ordinary household outlet

A T1 model such as the TXI680WP is rated at 120 volts on a 15-amp circuit, not the 240-volt dryer receptacle most US laundry rooms have. A no-power call starts at that outlet and its breaker.

Filters in front of the heat exchanger

Air passes the lint filters in the door opening and then a plinth filter that guards the heat exchanger. When either stage clogs, the dryer asks for airway cleaning or shows F66, and drying slows long before any part fails.

Condensed water has two routes

Water pulled from the load collects in a container or runs through a hose straight to a sink or drain. A kinked hose or a full container brings on the Empty out container light and stops the program.

Sensors in the refrigerant circuit

Because the heat comes from a heat pump, Miele monitors refrigerant temperatures and compressor start-up and gives each its own F-number. Those codes are read before anything is opened, since they narrow the work to one sensor or one circuit.

Parts

Miele parts are model-specific and are ordered against the model and serial number on the rating plate. Heat-pump components are the items most likely to need lead time.

Repair or replace

Heat-pump dryers cost more than vented ones and are chosen for installs where a duct is impractical, so a filter, sensor or door-contact repair nearly always beats replacement. A compressor that will not start on an older unit is the case that deserves a real comparison.

Questions about
Miele dryers.

Why does my Miele dryer keep telling me to clean out the airways?
Miele shows that reminder when the lint filters are clogged. Remove and clean both lint filters, rinse and dry them fully, then open and close the door with the dryer on to clear the light.
Can a Miele heat-pump dryer drain into a sink instead of the container?
Yes, on models with integrated drainage the condensed water can run through a hose into a sink or the sink drain outlet. Keep the hose free of kinks, since a bent hose brings the container warning back.
Does a Miele dryer need a 240-volt dryer outlet?
The T1 model we checked, the TXI680WP, is rated at 120 volts with a 15-amp fuse rating, so it runs from a standard grounded household outlet. Check the rating plate on your own unit to confirm.
